The internet geeks for sure will be having an idea about what Alexa Rank is but more and more of the average internet users must know what it is; so taking up the initiative I will be writing more articles on Alexa Rank in future. Here is an introduction to the Alexa Rank.
The Alexa Rank is traffic rank among alexa users based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and obtained from other diverse traffic data sources. Alexa Rank is combined measure of Number of users who visit the site and the number of page viewed by those users. The change in traffic is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank 3 months ago.
Alexa Traffic Rank is computed on top level domain i.e. is same for all the pages of the website unlike google page rank, like www.yahoo.com, hosting.yahoo.com, news.yahoo.com will be treated as the same website and will have the same alexa rank. If a url is identified as a blog or personal homepage it will be provided with a separate ranking.
The Alexa Rank is not the actual traffic estimate of any particular site, its based on the data collected from the alexa toolbar so the traffic estimates may over or under estimate the actual traffic of the site.
